This award is awarded to early career researchers to advance their career. The funding is given based on project proposals for project management and implementation.

R200 000 is granted to applicants to take sabbatical leave to complete PhD's. The funding allowed me to take a 10-month sabbatical, so the funding was used to pay a replacement for work as well as for any running costs of my PhD.
I used the time to write up my PhD and was able to submit my manuscript for examination by the end of my sabbatical period.
