The MAR Leadership Program is an ambitious joint initiative of the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature and the Summit Foundation that started in 2010. The program seeks to accelerate conservation impacts in the MAR Ecoregion by empowering emerging leaders who are at the early-career level to develop innovative and replicable projects that address present or emerging threats facing the region’s coastal and marine ecosystems. The program aims to advance long-term conservation of the MAR by equipping a critical mass of outstanding individuals with the knowledge, skills, and necessary tools as well as networking opportunities they need to initiate and implement high impact conservation projects.

About me

Biologist with experience in conservation, fisheries, and climate change. Since 2018, I’ve worked across the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of Guatemala, the Mesoamerican Reef System, and the Eastern Tropical Pacific region, focusing on small-scale fisheries management, biodiversity conservation, and ocean education.

I’ve collaborated with NGOs, academia, and government institutions, and currently serve as a Fellow at Cornell University’s Coastal Solutions Program and as Guatemala Hub Leader for the Sustainable Ocean Alliance and Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) programme.

I hold a Master’s degree in Marine and Coastal Sciences with a specialization in Marine Protected Areas and am currently pursuing a PhD at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Germany. My work integrates science, policy, and community engagement to strengthen coastal resilience and marine governance in Latin America
