Fellowship
The TWAS programme award I received was the CAS-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowship. I took up the award at the Institute of Metal Research, Shenyang, China for the period August 2011 to July 2012.
My research focus involved studying the corrosion resistant behaviour of several magnesium alloys containing different alloy metals of varying compositions. The aim was to study the corrosion resistant mechanism in magnesium alloy for improved metal alloy design and development tailored for specific needs.
During the period of my fellowship, I received the 2012 China-Africa Science and Technology Partnership Program (CASTEP) award administered through the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, for Equipment donation worth One hundred and fifty thousand Yuan (RMB 150,000).
The award facilitated the purchase of a Gamry Reference 600 Potentiostat/Galvanostat for use in the Corrosion and Electrochemical Research Laboratory (CER-Lab) in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, University of Calabar, Nigeria. Today, my research students can have access to a rare (in this part of the world), state of the art research equipment in electrochemical measurements.
I remain deeply grateful to CAS-TWAS for the award of the fellowship and to CASTEP for supporting my research and teaching career.
